“Behold Our God” Featuring the Shiloh Church Choir

July 10, 2019
By H.B. Charles Jr.
[embed]https://youtu.be/8S5QSFcLAlg[/embed]   There is a growing revival of modern hymn-writing and congregational singing taking place in the church today. Bob Kauflin and Sovereign Grace Music have contributed to this revival with biblically-rich, gospel-saturated, Christ-exalting music. I met Bob Kauflin a few years ago, through his son and my friend, Devon Kauflin. From our first conversations, we discussed our concern that doctrinally sound music should not be handcuffed to a particular cultural style. I remember Bob sharing his desire to do a cross-cultural project of Sovereign Grace Music. Neither of us knew the Lord would make us partners in this endeavor. In...

Shiloh Church Choir & Sovereign Grace Music Live Recording

February 27, 2019
By H.B. Charles Jr.
On Thursday, February 28, 2019, the Shiloh Church Choir will record a live worship CD with Bob Kauflin and Sovereign Grace Music. I was introduced to Sovereign Grace Music years ago, while I still served in Los Angeles. I met Bob Kauflin some years ago, as we served in a conference together. Our introduction and budding friendship involved many fruitful discussions about the gospel, corporate worship, and music. In the providence of God, those conversations led to an opportunity for our respective ministries to do something together to serve the larger church. I am grateful and excited that the Shiloh...

“Songs, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs” CD Released Today!

November 9, 2018
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I was a preacher’s kid. My father was the pastor of the church. My mother was the Minister of Music. Both made a tremendous impact on my life, faith, and ministry. My father taught me the scriptures. My mother taught me the songs of the church. I have always had a passion to sing. But I downplayed it most of the years. I was called to preach. And my father spoke negatively against “singing preachers.” He assumed that preachers sing when they don’t have anything to say. But my mother consistently encouraged me to pursue music. Throughout my two...

By H.B. Charles Jr.
This summer, the Worship & Arts and Children ministries of the Shiloh Church partnered to record a children’s choir CD. That worship project is now available on iTunes, and all other digital platforms. Shiloh Kids Live and In Worship, Most High King, was produced by Gospel music veteran, Joe Pace. Pace is the Pastor of Worship & Arts at the Shiloh Church and leads our infant label, Shiloh Worship. Our desire is to produce biblically sound, Christ-exalting, and gospel-saturated music that will serve the local church. This recording targets local church children choirs and ministries, who are underserved. This project...

Cutting It Straight 2017 | Worship Track

August 22, 2017
By H.B. Charles Jr.
A Guest Post by Joe Pace Colossians 3:16 teaches us that there is an undeniable relationship between the preaching/teaching ministry and music ministry in our worship.  “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Now to be clear, you can sing without the Word; you can play an instrument well without the Word; you can talk without the Word; BUT you simply cannot worship without the Word!  It is only with the truth of God’s word that...

Joe Pace Presents: H.B. Charles Jr. and the Shiloh Church Choir

September 29, 2016
By H.B. Charles Jr.
Some 15 years ago, I was in a conversation with leaders of the church I served in Los Angeles about music. Someone asked who would I pick if I could hire anyone I wanted to lead music at the church. My answer was simple. Joe Pace, who directed and produced the Colorado Mass Choir. Several years ago, when I began to search for a new music director at the church I currently serve in Jacksonville, Joe Pace joined our ministry team. Pace’s skill, wisdom, maturity, leadership, and experience have been richly enhanced the music department of our congregation. Last year,...

Pray for the Shiloh Church Choir Live CD Recording

December 14, 2015
By H.B. Charles Jr.
This Friday – December 18, 2015 – the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church Choir will record a live worship CD. It will be Shiloh’s first music project. We believe the word of God and the worship of God should always go together (John 4:23-24). As we go deeper in biblical truth, we should go higher in grateful praise. This music project reflects our prayerful desire to be a church where the light of Christian truth shines and the fire a Christian joy burns. [Tweet "As we go deeper in biblical truth, we should go higher in grateful praise. "] This worship...

#FreeGospelMusic

August 11, 2015
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I first saw the expression while riding down Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles. The “Godfather of Soul” had been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase through several states. As “the hardest working man in show business” sat in prison, some enterprising brother found a way to profit from his troubles. He stood on Crenshaw, selling t-shirts that read, “Free James Brown!” Over the years, that expression has been adapted to call for the release – sincerely or sarcastically – of various persons in different forms of bondage. Consider this my appeal to #FreeGospelMusic. I love Gospel Music. I...

Two Types of God-Talk

March 17, 2015
By H.B. Charles Jr.
As a boy, I looked forward to the annual 24-hour preaching marathon, hosted by Pastor Rocellia Johnson and the Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles. Yep. You read it right. A 24-hour preaching marathon. There would be preaching on the hour. My friends and I tried to hear every sermon. Bethany’s church facilities were severely damaged by the Northridge earthquake in 1994, ending the annual marathon. But I will never forget the great sermons I heard there over the years. The late Timothy M. Chambers, Jr. preached one memorable sermon at the event. The son of a well-respected preacher,...

WORD & WORSHIP with HBC2 & Joe Pace

July 28, 2014
By H.B. Charles Jr.
We are beginning a new feature here called, WORD & WORSHIP. It will consist of articles, reviews, and videos by me and my ministerial colleague, Joe Pace, who serves as the Pastor of Worship & Arts at the Shiloh Church. Our goal is to offer biblical guidance and practical help in the dealing with the relationship between music and preaching in corporate worship. We believe music in worship should extend and support the teaching ministry of the church (Colossians 3:16). And we hope to help teaching pastors and music ministers to strike the proper balance for the edification of the saints and...
