  • _MAR9849-X2January 12-19 is Prayer Emphasis Week at the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church. We start the year in believing prayer for one another, our congregation, and our city.

Between our two services, I taught a lesson entitled, “Pray for One Another,” about the importance of intercessory prayer. I intend to teach, “Pray for the Lost,” next Sunday.

Shout-out to our new media team members for your service this weekend. Great job!

We had a lot of guests in worship. Very encouraging.

Praise God for the one who was baptized!

The choir did a prayer medley before I preached that was fantastic. And I enjoy working alongside our new Pastor of Worship, Joe Pace.

I preached about “Praying for God’s Best” from Philippians 1:9-11. This short and powerful prayer teaches three ways to prayer for God’s best:

    1. Pray that love may abound (1:9)
    2. Pray that excellence may prove (1:10)
    3. Pray that fruit may grow (1:11)

    I love Philippians!

My prayer life has been greatly helped over the years by studying the New Testament prayers of Paul.

I agree with D.A. Carson: “Few of Paul’s prayers have greater potential to help us surmount the hurdles of spiritual dryness and lack of faith than the one in Philippians 1:9-11.”

I used a great quote from Ray Pritchard in this message: “We make our choices, and then our churches turn around and make us.”

I did not preach what I planned, as I struggled to turn shape my exposition for preaching. I look forward to getting to it soon. And that

Praise God for those who were added to the church today.

Before the season started, I predicted the Broncos and Seahawks would meet in the Super Bowl. It still stands, so far.

Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady. Again. Football!

I hope Peyton Manning wins it all this year and quiets his critics once and for all!

I do not see any possibility of San Francisco going to Seattle and taking down the Seahawks. None.

By the way, scientists are investigating whether the Seahawks fans’ cheering cause a small earthquake Saturday. Wow!

So Alex Rodriquez will be suspended for the entire 2014 baseball season. Now what?

I am very pleased that Greg Maddux was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. It should have been unanimous!
