Notes from Sunday – 08/05/12
August 6, 2012
It rained pretty hard this weekend. It scared many of the saints away from church today. But we still had a great day of worship at Shiloh. In spite of the rain, we had many guests today. A family reunion. And the football team from Edward Waters College. We observed the Lord's Supper in both worship services. What a blessing! Praise God for the new members who received the right-hand-of-fellowship today! I was politely warned today that I need to get back to teaching Sunday school soon. Warning heeded. I finally made it back to 1 John. Long story. Really...

Thanks, again, to all who served in our Vacation Bible School last week. You made it happen! 5th Sundays are Missions Emphasis Day at Shiloh. Today we highlighted the work of our own Outreach Center, under the leadership of Pastor Reginald Bryant. As always, grateful for our guests in worship today. I did not preach 8 AM. Was not physically up to it today. Pastor Al filled-in for me. At the last-minute, no less. I am glad to have ready and available help. I pressed my way to preach and lead worship at 10:15. It felt like I stood there...

The Lord blessed the worship services at Shiloh today. We had quite of few guests in worship today. Way cool. Our chorale, Forgiven, prepared to sing "Reach Out And Touch Him," a song from the new Marvin Winans CD, led by Bishop Paul Morton. I was to sing the lead. But I chickened out during the middle of the 8 AM service. Fail. I couldn't wait to get to the pulpit to preach to my congregation today. My people acted like this missed me back! Way cool. I preached from "Living with Heavenly Priorities" from Colossians 3:1-4. I argued that...

Praise the Lord for the way he worked today at Shiloh! Thank God for the one who was baptized today. Thanks to all of the volunteers who serve at the Shiloh Church. You make it happen! Our worship leader was on his post today, R. Scott, even though his sister passed away this weekend. Very encouraging. I preached Psalm 1. I called it, “Which Way Are You Going?” I stated the point of the sermon in three words: Choose God’s way. Sermon Outline: I. Choose the way that is blessed (1:1-2) II. Choose the way that bears fruit (1:3-4) III. ...

Welcome to my new readers! Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the posts and find them helpful. I write “Notes from Sunday” each week about my day of worship. I reflect on the day and the events around it. I also comment on stuff that caught my attention over the weekend. (Translation: Sports!) I taught Bible Study Fellowship today for the first time in weeks. I called the lesson, “How to Minister to God.” I miss teaching this class. Praise God for those who were baptized this morning. We had a lot of guests in worship today. Way cool....

We have a great day of worship today at Shiloh. We celebrated the Lord’s Table today in both of our morning services. As always, I am grateful for the guests who joined us in worship. “You Are My Strength.” Aborted. Twice. We’ll get it, sooner or later. We also prayed for our group of our youth who are going on a short-term missions trip this week, led by our youth pastor. My two oldest are also participating. They have arrived to their destination safely. We are praying they have a safe, fruitful, and life-changing week. I cheated today. I am...

Long weekend. Very long weekend. We have a good day of worship today at Shiloh. We had a lot of special guests in worship today. A high school reunion. A large youth ministry. Several politicians. And the chair of the Democratic National Committee. Praise God for the brother we baptized today. We had parent-child dedications today. One little fellow screamed when I laid hands on him during prayer. But after church, he let me pick him up and didn’t want to leave. See there, first impressions are not always lasting impressions The music was good today. I preached a message from Psalm...

I really enjoyed my Father's Day yesterday. And we had a great day of worship at Shiloh. 23 years ago, the Lord took my father from labor to refreshment. I was not feeling well for a good stretch of last week Thanks for your prayers and expressions of concern. Praise God for the one who was baptized yesterday. I am grateful for all of the guests who joined us for worship yesterday. Our women's chorus sung yesterday. Good thing....

This weekend was our Youth Explosion. Friday night, Kierra "KiKi" Sheard was in concert at Shiloh. Crystal and I enjoyed it more than the youth did! I woke up early Saturday morning in great pain. I went to the ER. The doctor asked me not to do anything for the rest of the weekend. I was stunned. It was the first time a doctor ever told me I should not preach. The medication she gave me put be down for the rest of the day. I missed 8 AM service. Thanks to D. Lewis for filling in. I was determined...

We had a blessed day of worship at Shiloh yesterday. It was absolutely wonderful to be home with my congregation. There’s no place like home! We celebrated the Lord’s Supper today and welcomed our new members into the Shiloh family. It is always a special time. It was good to have our guests in worship with us. “There Is A Fountain” is my favorite Communion hymn. I worked for more than a week on Psalm 61. I was looking forward to preaching it this. It left me Saturday night. I look forward to preaching Psalm 61 at some point in...

Notes from Mother’s Day 2012
May 14, 2012
Happy Mother’s Day! I am grateful to God for my wife, Crystal, the mother of my three children. We did not torture her as severely today, in honor of Mother’s Day. We had quite a few guests in worship today. Grateful. We did Charles Jenkins’ new song, “Awesome,” corporately. It is a beautiful song. Our Children’s Choir sang today. It was great to have them participating on Mother’s Day. Our Men’s Chorus led the special music. It is encouraging to have men lead out in praises to our God. Praise God for the one who was baptized today. I preached...

We had a good day of worship at the Shiloh Church. I love my congregation! It is a privilege to serve such a great people. We did not have Bible Study Fellowship groups today. During our BSF hour, I met with our Deacons for prayer. It was refreshing and encouraging. I found renewed strength to preach our second service after our time of prayer. We celebrated the Lord's Supper and welcomed in our new members who completed our New Members Class Saturday. As always, I am grateful for all of our guests who joined us in worship. I preached a...
