  • Notes from Sunday is my weekly summary of my Lord’s Day worship  and recap of the sports I follow on the weekend.

It was a beautiful day in Jacksonville. And it was a good day of worship at Shiloh.

In Bible Study Fellowship, I continued to teach from 1 Timothy 2:8-15. I focused on verses 9-10, where Paul gives directives for physical appearance.

Next Sunday, God willing, I will teach on 1 Timothy 2:12, which prohibits women from teaching of exercising authority over men. Should be interesting.

We celebrated the Lord’s Supper today in both of our services. To God be the glory!

It was good to have our guests in worship today.

Or chairmen made a presentation to me today in our second service for my fourth year at Shiloh. It was very encouraging.

I preached from 1 John 4:1-6“Test the Spirits.”

Sermon Point: Real Christians can and must distinguish between truth and error.

In this passage, John gives two ways to test the spirits:

    1. Test the spirits with discernment (4:1-3)
    2. Test the spirits with confidence (4:4-6)

In my message, I stated that we do not need any prophets or apostles today, as they served a foundational function in the church (Eph. 2:20). I am not sure how well that went over. But it’s the truth anyway.

Praise the Lord for those who were saved and added to the church today.

I plan to pick up verses 7-12 during our Midweek Worship Service on Wednesday night.

My goal is to at least finish 1 John 4 by the end of the year.

After service today, we joined in a Christmas fellowship with District 27. Thanks again Deacon Fears for the invite.

All I know is that the Dallas Cowboys better defeat the Philadelphia Eagles tonight.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fell to the Buffalo Bills, 34-18.

My heart goes out to the families affected by the murder-suicide that happened in Kansas City this weekend. Very sad.

In the wake of the tragedy, The Kansas City Chiefs pulled out an emotional win against the Carolina Panthers.

The SEC Championship game between Alabama and Georgia is an instant classic!

Saturday night, Miguel Cotto lost a 12-round decision to super welterweight champion, Austin Trout. It was Cotto’s first loss in 8 fights at the Madison Square Garden.

So it looks like we are going to get a BCS Championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama. Who you got?

“Ball don’t lie.” – Rasheed Wallace (Classic!)

How was your Sunday morning? How did your teams do this weekend?
