  • I love first Sundays!

We celebrated the Lord’s Table in both worship services. We also welcomed our new members that completed New Members Class Saturday. What a joy!

By the way, I really enjoyed my time with our new members Saturday morning. They had really great questions. And I enjoy talking about Christian doctrine. I was encouraged by their eagerness to learn.

It was good to have our guests in worship today, including the Raines High School class of 1977.

In my Bible Study Fellowship group, I taught from 1 Timothy 1:3-8: “A Warning against False Teachers.” In typical H.B. fashion, I did not finish the lesson and will have to pick it up next Sunday.

October is Stewardship Emphasis Month at Shiloh.

I preached today from 1 Corinthians 16:1-4. I called it, “The Giving Challenge.”

There are five biblical principles for Christian giving in 1 Corinthians 16:1-4:

    1. Give purposefully (v. 1)
    2. Give regularly (v. 2)
    3. Give intentionally (v. 2)
    4. Give proportionally (v. 2)
    5. Give willingly (vv. 3-4)

Praise God for those who were added to the church today.

The Jaguars were bad hosts today. They had guests. But they didn’t bother to show up. The Bears ate the Jags 41-3. And to think, I almost went to this game. My nap was better.

    A. Robinson and C. Dates had jokes on Twitter about the Jag’s loss. But their beloved Bears will join the Jags watching the playoffs on the couch. Bam!

After the disaster last Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys needed a bye-week.

Drew Brees made history tonight by throwing a touchdown in his 48th straight game, breaking Johnny Unitas’ record. The NFL even permitted his coach, Sean Peyton, to attend the game.

Brady bested Manning again. New uniform, same story. The Colts won an inspiring victory over the Packers. The Falcons won again; the Redskins lost RGIII in the process. How long will it take before Eagles fans start demanding that Michael Vick be benched?

There was quite a bit of shake-up in the NCAA coaches’ poll today. Alabama remains on top, of course. Oregon remains #2. But S. Spurrier and South Carolina jumped to #3. LSU and Florida State dropped after upsets.

With all of this moving around, my USC Trojans quietly slipped up to #9 in the polls.

As predicted, the New York Yankees won their division. And I am predicting the Yankees will win it all!

Did you know the WNBA playoffs were going on? Sorry, but I didn’t even know the league was still in operation.

Are you ready for the NBA season to begin and the Miami Heat to repeat! I repeat: Repeat!!!
