Speaking @ Word Fellowship Reformed Baptist Church

March 23, 2010
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I am in Greensboro, North Carolina, preaching for my friend Keelan Atkinson. I started Sunday night. I will conclude the meeting tonight. I have know Keelan for some years now. This may be the fourth time I have come to Greensboro to preach for him. Keelan's young church - only several years old - has been very kind and encouraging to me over the years. And I am glad to be here to minister the word of God to them. Pastor Atkinson is the one who recommended me to the leadership of Shiloh during their pastoral search. I still blame...

Speaking @ Inspirational B.C. in Cincinnati

May 29, 2009
By H.B. Charles Jr.
Last night I spoke at the 2009 Holy Convocation services being hosted by Bishop Victory Couzens and the Inspirational Baptist Church of Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a great worship service. Joe Pace, of the Colorado Mass Choir, is the worship leader of this congregation. And the musical praise was very uplifting. And the congregation was eager to hear the word of God explained. Who could ask for more? I met Pastor Couzens for the fist time last night. But I was very grateful to see the good work the Lord is doing through him and his congregation. Since his arrival...

New Life in Christ Fellowship Church

April 26, 2008
By H.B. Charles Jr.
My brother, Kevin B. Willis, Sr. has pastored the Riverside Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis since 1993. And the Lord has done great things in and through Kevin as he faithfully served this strong Memphis congregation. However, Kevin was recently led to end his fifteen-year work at Riverside Church. And he has begun a new work in nearby Southaven, Mississippi. He has named this new congregation "New Life in Christ Fellowship Church." This is a big step of faith for Kevin, Linda, and all those who have prayerfully chosen to follow them in this new work. Please keep this infant...

Speaking @ St. Paul in Sacramento

April 16, 2008
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I have spent the past several days speaking at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Sacramento, which is led by Dr. Ephraim Williams. I spoke four times over the course of three days. This marked the third time I have ministered at St. Paul. The last two years, I have participated in the celebration of their church anniversary (St. Paul is 60 years old this year). This year, however, I spoke for three nights that focused on the young adults of St. Paul. I was encouraged by the opportunities and support the congregation gave to the young people of the...

By H.B. Charles Jr.
I was scheduled to be be San Francisco today to begin preaching the afternoon meetings for their citywide revival. Family duties prevented me from attending this meeting. This would have been my fourth year preaching this meeting. I have been the afternoon speaker each year. And I have been partnered with some fine preachers. I preached with Pastor Stephen Thurston from Chicago the first year. I preached with Pastor Marvin Wiley, who pastors in a Chicago suburb, the second year. And I preached with Pastor Nathan Johnson of Detroit last year. Pastor Johnson is the evening speaker again this year....

Speaking @ Mt. Carmel Indianapolis

March 20, 2008
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I am writing this post from the Indianapolis airport. I have been in town to preach three nights at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where Dr. Theron Williams is the pastor. It has been a tough week of preaching. First of all, I think I became homesick the moment the plane left LAX Monday morning. I have been struggling with cold symptoms all week. And the weather here has been horrible. I (wisely) did not leave my room all week expect to preach. Although the weather has been cold, I found Mt. Carmel to be a warm congregation. I met...

On-Target Evangelism Conference

February 21, 2008
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I attended the On-Target Evangelism Conference this week in Anaheim. The California Southern Baptist Convention sponsored this event. This was the second time I have attended. I attended several years ago, and I was both challenged and encouraged by the messages that I heard. Unfortunately, I missed last year. But I was able to attend this year. And it was even better than the last time I was there. Nelson Searcy – Nelson Searcy, who pastors the Journey Metro Church in New York City, gave several lectures on breaking growth barriers. I cannot swallow all that Searcy teaches without spitting...

2008 Prayer Bowl @ Mt. Moriah

January 1, 2008
By H.B. Charles Jr.
We have never had a "Watchnight Service" at MSMBC during my pastorate. However, we do participate in a special service at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church on the first day of the year that is called "The Prayer Bowl." Every year, Pastor Melvin Wade invites various preachers from across the Los Angeles area to participate in this marathon service of prayer, praise, and the preaching of the word of God. The service is typically full throughout the whole day. And it is usually an encouraging and fruitful meeting. I have had the privilege of preaching in this meeting for at...

Holy Week @ Burnette Baptist Church

April 12, 2006
By H.B. Charles Jr.
I am in Detroit, Michigan. I "lost a day" yesterday. It was a little after 8 AM when I got on the plane at LAX. And it was close to 5 PM when I got off the plane in Detroit. It was a long, bumpy flight. But, thank God, it landed. That's all that matters. But flights like that drain my energy and leave me kind of sore. I got something to eat. Checked into my room. Shaved and showered. And it was time to go to church.Last night, I began three nights at the Burnette Baptist Church. I first...
