  • Long weekend. Really long weekend. But I am grateful for God’s strengthening grace.

Weekends like this past one make me respect my father all the more. My dad was the best.

I count it a privilege to serve the Shiloh Church. The maturity of this congregation has been most evident of the past weeks. God is faithful. And the best is yet to come!

I had a great time teaching my Sunday school class. We are studying the attributes of God. I taught on the holiness of God. I only made it halfway through the lesson. I am eager to get back to it next Sunday.

Our children’s choir did a great job yesterday… in spite of the microphones.

Praise God for the six persons who were baptized yesterday!

I continued my study of 1 John with a message on 1 John 2:7-11 – The New Commandment.

Sermon Point: The test of love is the test of life.

    Sermon Outline:

    I.     The affirmation of the test of love (2:7-8)

    1. It is an old commandment (2;7).
    2. It is a new commandment (2:8)

II.     The application of the test of love (2:9-11)

    1. Test your confession (2:9)
    2. Test your conduct (2:10-11)

Next week’s sermon: “A Message for All Ages” (1 John 2:12-14).

Praise God for those who were added to the church yesterday.

My wife, Crystal, took ill during the sermon. I noticed the Health Ministry workers going to check on her. And I saw her walk out. I looked the other way and tried to keep preaching.

After service, I discovered that Crystal was having a really bad migraine. I took her to the emergency room. They drugged her up pretty well. But all the tests they ran were negative. Praise God.

Crystal is resting today. Thanks for your prayers and expressions of concern.

Special thanks to Andrea and Tiffany.

I have a one-column NCAA basketball tournament bracket: The Duke Blue Devils will it all!

    What happened to “LinSanity?”

Where do you think Peyton Manning will end up?

I have been hearing that if Manning signs with the Denver Broncos, Tim Teabow will be traded… most likely to the Jaguars. How about “Teabow Time” in JAX!?!?

Tiger Woods pulled out of a tournament yesterday with an injury. I feel really sorry for him, for some reason.

I TiVo’d ESPN’s documentary on “The Announcement.” Looking forward to watching it. I can’t believe it has been more than twenty years since Magic Johnson announced that he was HIV positive.

    The Most Important Commandment

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this:‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions. – Mark 12:28-34 Armies win…
