  • Notes from Sunday – 09/29/13
  • safe_image.php_This past week, we hosted our Fall Church Institute at the Shiloh Church. And the sense of spiritual refreshment seemed to carry over into Sunday morning.

Saturday was the third week of our men and women’s discipleship fellowships. We are to a great start. Looking forward to the weeks ahead.

Saturday evening, I had the opportunity to preach chapel for the Jacksonville Jaguars. I am always amazed by how seriously the players get when the word is taught.

5th Sundays are like a box of chocolates. You never go what you are going to get.

I was away preaching for a friend last week. I missed my congregation and was glad to be in my own pulpit.

As always, I was excited to have our guests in worship. One sister heard me preach in Washington D.C. last month and determined to visit Shiloh during her trip to Florida. Way cool.

Praise God for the two persons that were baptized at Shiloh today.

I preached from Ephesians 1:3“Count Your Blessings.”

Ephesians 1:3 highlights three dynamics of the blessed life that is ours through faith in Jesus Christ:

    1. The Proper Response to the Blessed Life: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”
    2. The Exclusive Means to the Blessed Life: “who has blessed us in Christ”
    3. The Infinite Scope of the Blessed Life: “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places”

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church today.

Next Sunday, I plan to start a new sermon series called “Let the Church Be the Church!” from Revelation 2-3. I intend to begin this series on the Seven Churches of Asia Minor with a message from Revelation 2:1-7: “Having Everything But the Main Thing.”

I preached in physical pain. My knee was throbbing. Yet God’s grace again is sufficient and his strength is perfected in our weakness (2 Co. 12:9).

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Diego Chargers, 21-30, to go 2-2 for the season.

The Indianapolis Colts punished the Jaguars, 37-3. (I’ll preach harder next time!)

USC fired Lane Kiffin after an embarrassing lost to Arizona State Saturday night. Reports are that Kiffin was fired at LAX after the flight home. They would not even let him ride back to campus on the team bus. Wow!

I think Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. stole a 12-round decision from Bryan Vera Saturday night.
