  • I love my congregation. What a church!

Thanks for praying for the Shiloh Church family this weekend.

Yesterday was a difficult day for our congregation, as we mourned the death of one of our faithful and beloved pastors, Mike Rodgers. Yet there was joy in the midst of sorrow. Please continue to pray for the Rodgers family and the Shiloh Church.

God is so faithful The day of worship started with a spirit of heaviness. But over the course of the day, you could sense the Lord lifting our spirits as we worshiped him. Great is the Lord!

Likewise, remember my family in your prayers this week. This is the first death my four-year-old daughter can relate to. Pastor Mike was a grandfather figure to Hailey. Pray for us as he help her process this.

Praise God for the one who was baptized yesterday.

As always, I am grateful for the many guests we had in worship.

Yesterday was our Back-to-School Day. We welcomed school administrators and teachers from around our city as our special guests. There were at least seven school principals present. We gave a donation to seven schools. And we covered them in prayer.

Most importantly, we prayed for the families and children of our church. Most students begin school today in Jacksonville. What It was a joy and a privilege to intercede for our children and their families.

I broke from my study of 1 John. I preached from Romans 8:28 and called it, “The Ironic Providence of God.”

I highlighted four dynamics of the providence of God:

    I. The assurance of God’s providential work: “And we know…”

II. The scope of God’s providential work: “all things work together”

III. The goal of God’s providential work: “for good… according to his purpose”

IV. The beneficiaries of God’s providential work: “those who love God… for those who are called according to his purpose”

It was on my heart to say something comforting and encouraging to my people yesterday. It get’s no better than Romans 8:28.

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church yesterday!

Yesterday afternoon, I caught a flight to Chicago to speak for Pastor Adron Robinson at the Hillcrest Baptist Church. The Lord gave me strength to preach. It was a good meeting. Please remember the next two nights of this meeting in your prayers.

The Yankees are on fire now! I am not paying much attention to baseball yet. But my annual MLB predication stands. The New York Yankees will win the World Series.

The USC Trojans are #1 in the AP Top 25 poll. No sanctions can keep down the Trojans! We will the BCS Championship this year! Sorry, LSU & Alabama! And expect Matt Barkley to win the Heisman Trophy!

I am greatly concerned about what I am seeing (or not seeing) from the Dallas Cowboys this preseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked are off to a promising start this preseason. And rumors are that Maurice Jones-Drew will report to camp this week. Good news.

How was your day of worship yesterday?
