  • #050: On Preaching With Ray Pritchard [PODCAST]
  • Welcome to THE ON PREACHING PODCAST, the podcast dedicated to helping you preach faithfully, clearly, and better.

I was introduced to the ministry of Ray Pritchard through his book, In the Shadow of the Cross. I have followed his ministry ever since.

Looking up his church website, I found links to sermons manuscripts and his blog. Ray was the first pastor who blogged that I knew. And I read him every day. In fact, blame Ray Pritchard for me being a blogger!

After missing some days of checking his site, I logged on to discover that he had resigned his pastorate, to give his full-time attention to his ministry, Keep Believing Ministries.

A short time later, during a difficult period in my congregation, I wrote Ray an email asking, “How do you know when it is time to leave your church?”

I never expected any response to this email. But Ray wrote me back a careful and wise email. I printed and copied it and have it in my files to this day.

His email was the start of a fast friendship.

[Tweet “Never overestimate the value of one great sermon. Never underestimate the value of many good sermons. – Ray Pritchard”]

Ray Pritchard is not only one of my dear friends, he is also one of my favorite preachers. In many ways, Ray has mentored me in, preaching, pastoral leadership, and writing.

On top of that, Ray has been one my greatest cheerleaders. I have had many doors opened for me because of Ray’s commendation. I am truly grateful for his friendship, support, and encouragement.

I recently talked shop with Ray about preaching and preachers. As always, Ray gives wise and practical advice for effective preaching. Enjoy!
